The block has been bored, honed, decked, filled with concrete, new frost plugs fitted and painted.

Forged pistons have been fitted to the forged rods.

Balancing the aftermarket crankshaft and assembly.

Short block is complete with forged pistons, forged rods, aftermarket crankshaft & ARP head studs.

Ported inlet now flows 19% more than standard.

Ported exhaust now flows 19% more than standard.

Completed cylinder head with stainless oversize valves, bronze valve guides, beehive springs with titanium retainers, port and polished with 280 degree camshafts.

Cylinder head is on the block with a triple layer metal headgasket sandwhiched in between. About to dial in the 280 degree camshafts and Tomei cam pulleys

The long block is now complete and ready to make some horsepower.

A customer brought in a copy Greddy inlet manifold for us to look at. After inspection we found that the manifold face was not flat, even though it appeared to be to the naked eye. So we have machined the surface perfectly flat. Something to look out for if you ever buy one of these manifolds.

We don't just rebuild engines for road cars and race cars. We also rebuild industrial and commercial engines. We currently have to rebuild 4 turbocharged Cummins engines for commercial fishing boats. These engines are very heavy and require a forklift to move them. The photo shows the first 2 engines of the 4 to rebuild.

4 & Rotary Nationals 2011

The 4 & Rotary Nationals is over for another year, and we can't wait until next year. Our car was on display at the Show on Saturday, then we were off racing at Meremere on Sunday.

We finished 4th in S/M (sport mod) class which we we pretty happy with. We changed the suspension setup and were running M/T slicks for the first time, so the car drove alot differently to the previous setup, we strated off running 10.8 and made small changes to the setup after each run. We finished the day running consistant 10.3's. Towards the end of the day the car developed an electrical issue causing the car's engine to cut out during a run and then fire back to life just a quickly as it cut out. On a positive note, we managed to run our best 60ft time of 1.42 seconds which is great. On our last run of the day we are sure we ran a high 1.3 60ft time but the time slip didn't record it (!?!) We are confident that we can crack a 9 second pass as we continue to make small changes to find the new setup's ideal settings.

Hytech Evo sets new PB!

We attended the Dragmasters 2011 competition today at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere. The Hytech Engines Evo continued to improve. Today we set a new PB (personal best) ET of 10.19 seconds, a new PB 60ft time of 1.54 seconds and a new PB MPH of 140 mph! All of this was achieved on only 25psi of boost.

The V8 Team beat the Import Team this year, so here is a picture of the car with our "Runner Up" Trophy.

We have just finished building a fully forged internal Version 4 STI WRX engine for a customer. The build includes after market cams, head studs, block studs, ported and polished heads, metal head gasket, Crower heavy duty valve springs and titanium retainers etc...

I must admit that the WRX engine is not a pretty thing to look at, but the customer is going to be more than happy with its performance when it's in the car and tuned.

Hytech Drag Evo continues to improve!

On Friday 3rd December we made a last minute decision to take our Evo to attend Round 3 of the Night Speed Drag Wars series at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere.

This turned out to be a good decision as the car and driver are showing some real consistancy running a number of 10 second passes, including a new best time of 10.509 seconds at 219.85kph! This was with a fairly average 60ft time of 1.72 seconds.

The only problem we encountered was the car was hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear well before the finish line on every run. This is will mean we will have to up the rev limit and/or use a taller tyre. If we have to run a taller tyre we will probably make the switch to a slick tyre of some sort.

Positive results at 2nd "Test & Tune" day of the 2010 season

The Hytech Evo made some positives steps in the right direction today, running 10.65 & 10.81 seconds on only 17psi boost and 98 ron pump gas. We achieved our best 60ft time to date of 1.63 seconds on street tyres. Unfortunately we only managed to get in 4 runs the whole day. By the time we used up the pump gas and switched to race gas and more boost the day came to a close and it was time to pack up.

It was a very hot day and luckily there weren't too many cars out for testing which meant we could get in quite a few runs.

We were still running the car on pump gas and 17psi boost today. The driver needs to get as much seat time as possible to feel comfortable in the car before we run full power on race gas.

The good news is that we didn't break anything today. There were a few cars which smashed diffs and gearboxes, so we were lucky.

The only issues we had was the car would bog in 2nd gear, but we would still manage to cross the line doing over 130mph (208kph)!

We managed to reduce the cars 60ft time to 1.699 seconds, and most of our runs had a top speed of between 130 - 133mph.

2010 Night Speed Drag Wars Round 1

Round 1 of the 2010 Night Speed Drag Wars was the first outing for the freshly rebuilt Hytech Engines Drag Evo. Unfortunately the night was ended early when a faulty injector stopped us from running. However a Hytech Engines customer won his class, taking out the Turbo 4WD (C1) Class with consistant low 11 second passes. Well done to Dayne!

Hytech Engines freshly rebuilt 2.0ltr 4G63 produced 450.4kw at all 4 wheels on a Dynapak Dyno. The engine had zero knock and zero vibration right throughout the rev range. Power was still climbing past the 450kw mark, but at this stage we are choosing reliability over total peak power so are not going any higher with HP until we happy with the cars reliability on the track. We have previously snapped driveshafts with less power.

The dynapak dyno calculated that the engine itself produced 742.9hp before calling it a day.

Isuzu C240 Cylinder Head For Sale

For those of you who are enquiring about the above cylinder head and keep asking for more photo's. Here they are. The cylinder head is kept in a plastic cylinder head bag to protect the head and protect the coating the surfaced face has on it. There are a few hairs on the head which found there way onto the head when when unwrapped it. Some of you may mistake these for cracks. They are NOT cracks. The head is in excellent condition. We have fully reconditioned it. We would not recondition a head if it was no good.

Our Evo is making 345kw on 20psi on pump gas with excessive wheel spin. The rolling road dyno can not handle the power the car is making, so it is time to change dyno's.

We recently finished building Gaz Whiter's new SR20DET short block for the new engine in his drift car. The engine was fitted and dyno'd and made an impressive 450kW at the wheels!!! Apparently there is more power in it, but I'm sure its more than enough for a drift car. Well done team Whiter.

SDU Dyno Day 2010

The Skylines Downunder Under Car Club held their Dyno Day in Tauranga on Saturday 31 July 2010 at DynoPower. It was a great turn out with a good group of people. More pictures can be found on our Facebook page.

The boss took out the Turbo 4WD class with a run of 501.4kw on 20psi boost. It was a shame he couldn't do a high boost run to try and crack 600kw at the wheels, but the car had excessive wheel spin on the dyno which mean't the dyno couldn't keep up with the power. Maybe next time.

What happens when a cylinder head lifts under acceleration

The above photo's show where a 4G63 (Mitsi Evo) cylinder head melted when the head lifted due to a spike in boost pressure. The photo's below show where the 3 layer metal head gasket tore apart. Luckily there was no other damage to this engine. All can be fixed.

The car has made 423kw at all 4 wheels on a rolling road dyno. The tuner has said we should add 8% to the final figure to get true power at the hubs due to excessive wheel spin the car made on the dyno. This brings power up around 457kw at all 4 wheels. And yes, we still have to fit the front bumper on the car.

A 5 Litre Holden V8 was the first complete engine rebuild we have completed for 2010. The engine has brand new everything (pistons, rods, cam, gaskets, etc) and has been fully balanced. It's ready to go and the customer will be happy with the result.

What a long and hot day it was.

We didn't have the greatest of days at Dragmasters. The boss couldn't get his GTR started in the morning so couldn't bring it down to race, probably a faulty crank angle sensor or something silly like that. So we took down another GTR along with our evo. The evo broke the standard gearbox on the first qualifying pass so it was back on the trailor. Time for a new PPG gearbox. The GTR had a really bad miss right throughout the rev range in every gear, resulting in a 14.1 sec first pass, then a 12.8 and 12.4 sec pass. No way near what it used to run or what it should run now. We thought we would try a few simple things to fix it givin the lack of tools we had with us. The GTR was put in the 11.9 second elimination bracket which meant we couldn't go any quicker than 11.9. We were the only import in this class. What do you know, the miss isn't as bad during the first round which meant he had to back off at the end of the track and coast over the line for the win to make sure we didnt break out. The next round was even better, the miss was almost gone and we had to brake hard at the end of the track to not break out, resulting in an 11.9 pass to take the win :P The final was very close, the miss was now gone and again we had to back off at the end of the track to not break out even though the V8 was half a car length behind. Again taking the win with an 11.9 sec pass. The GTR should have been in the 10.9 second elimination bracket, but you have to make do with what you've got on the day, so thank you dragmasters for the big trophy, certificate and $200

This Evo I-III 4G63 engine was built for another tuning shop in Auckland. Fully balanced with forged internals and a very nice aftermarket crankshaft. Should make really nice power. It's the last 4G63 engine built for 2009 and it's been collected by the customer who is happy he got it before xmas. No more engines in our workshop, a great way to be before xmas.

Engine refresh

Customer only wanted the bottom end of his RB26 refreshed as he was selling his car. We stripped and cleaned the bottom end, polished the crankshaft journals, painted the block and fitted new rings and bearings. All back together and delivered to another workshop who will put it back in the GTR. There are now no more RB26 engines in our workshop, just how we like it before xmas.

RB26 forged short block. Customer already had a set of used forged pistons that he wanted to use. They were ok so we used them after giving them a good clean.
